Komodo Cruise 2D1N — The Short Labuan Bajo Escape on a Private Phinisi

Short answer. The 2D1N covers Kelor, Manjarite and Kalong on day one, then Padar, Pink Beach and Komodo Island on day two. It is offered as a private charter at USD 5,900 for the whole boat in 2026 (one to twelve guests; USD 6,500 for thirteen to eighteen). Manta Point and Taka Makassar are not on this route — they sit on the three-day itinerary. Park fees are extra.

Two days and one night is the shortest overnight format that still gets you to Padar at sunrise and onto Komodo Island with a ranger. It exists for a specific traveller: someone with a fixed weekend, a long-haul stopover, or a Bali itinerary that cannot spare three nights. It is an honest trip, but it is a compressed one, and it is worth knowing exactly what you are trading away before you book it.

The two-day route

DayStopsWhat happens
Day 1Kelor Island · Manjarite Island · Kalong IslandMorning pick-up in Labuan Bajo, short sail to Kelor for the ridge walk and photographs, lunch under way, snorkelling at Manjarite, then anchor off Kalong for the dusk flight of thousands of flying foxes. Dinner and the night at anchor.
Day 2Padar Island · Pink Beach · Komodo IslandPre-dawn tender to Padar for the viewpoint trek, breakfast on the way to Pink Beach, swimming and photographs on the coral-pink sand, then the ranger-guided dragon trek at Loh Liang before returning to Labuan Bajo.

What you give up versus the three-day trip

SiteOn 2D1NOn 3D2NWhy it matters
Padar viewpointYesYesThe photograph everyone comes for
Komodo Island dragon trekYesYesRanger-guided, the only certain wildlife encounter of the trip
Pink BeachYesYesSwim and shore time
Manta Point (Karang Makassar)NoYesThe one place on the route where manta rays are resident year-round
Taka MakassarNoYesThe crescent sandbar; the best snorkelling stop of the standard route
Siaba and SebayurNoYesThe unhurried final-morning reef stops

If manta rays are the reason you are coming, add a day for Manta Point rather than booking this one.

Who it actually suits

Weekend groups flying out of Denpasar on a Friday evening and back on a Sunday. Business travellers with a spare 48 hours. Families testing whether an eight-year-old is comfortable sleeping at anchor before committing to a longer charter next year. Anyone who has already done the full route and wants the highlights again with different company.

It suits you less well if you are flying in from Europe or North America, where a fourteen-hour approach for one night on the water is poor value, or if you are travelling in the windy window from late January to early March, when a two-day trip has no slack in it for a weather delay.

Flight timing, honestly

Komodo Airport at Labuan Bajo takes direct flights from Denpasar in about an hour to an hour and ten, and non-stop from Jakarta in roughly two and a half hours. Pick-up for the cruise is in the morning. That means an inbound flight the previous evening is the safe plan, and a same-morning arrival only works if you are on the first rotation and travelling with cabin baggage. On the return, the boat is alongside in the afternoon of day two — book an evening flight, not a mid-afternoon one.

Included and excluded

What the price covers

  • Accommodation on board for the whole trip
  • All meals during the trip
  • Mineral water, coffee and tea
  • Premium photo and video documentation with drone, GoPro and mirrorless cameras (raw footage)
  • Guide
  • Snorkelling gear
  • Life vest
  • Pick-up and drop-off between your Labuan Bajo hotel or the airport and the meeting point, within the mainland area near the harbour

What it does not cover

  • Flight tickets
  • Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks beyond water, coffee and tea
  • Personal snacks
  • Crew gratuities
  • Komodo National Park fees, subject to the regulation in force when you travel
  • Komodo National Park drone permit, estimated at IDR 2,100,000, not mandatory, and requested at least seven days ahead

Everything the national park charges is extra. Published operator figures for 2025 to 2026 disagree with each other, spanning roughly IDR 150,000 to IDR 350,000 per person per day plus higher weekend and holiday bands, so treat any single figure as indicative and ask for a written quotation tied to your travel dates.

Because the two-day format is charter-only in practice, see chartering the whole boat for terms and group sizing, and available departure dates for what is currently open. To see how the rest of the fleet is priced, the operator publishes comparable vessels for the same window.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 2D1N available as an open trip?
Not on the published calendar. Catnazse advertises three-day open-trip windows, so the two-day itinerary is offered as a private charter unless the booking desk confirms otherwise for your dates. Ask before you plan around it.
What does 2D1N cost?
USD 5,900 for the whole boat in 2026 with one to twelve guests, or USD 6,500 for thirteen to eighteen. In 2027 the same durations are USD 6,000 and USD 7,000. National park fees are added separately.
Which sites are missing compared with 3D2N?
Manta Point and Taka Makassar, plus the Siaba and Sebayur reef stops on the final morning. The two-day route still includes Kelor, Manjarite, Kalong, Padar, Pink Beach and Komodo Island.
Can I fly in and out the same weekend?
Denpasar to Labuan Bajo is about an hour, Jakarta about two and a half hours non-stop. Arriving on a morning flight and departing late on the second day is possible but leaves no margin — if a flight slips, you lose the boat, not the airline’s money.
Is one night on board enough to see a Komodo dragon?
Yes. The dragon trek at Loh Liang on Komodo Island is on day two of the two-day route and is ranger-guided, exactly as it is on the longer itineraries.
Does a shorter trip mean a smaller boat or fewer crew?
No. It is the same 34.4-metre phinisi with the same eight cabins and the same crew, simply booked for one night instead of two or three.
