Private Komodo Boat Charter — Catnazse Phinisi for Up to 18 Guests

Short answer. Chartering Catnazse privately means the whole 34.4-metre phinisi, all eight cabins and up to 18 guests, on a date you choose. 2026 rates run from USD 5,200 for a day cruise to USD 12,450 for 7D6N (one to twelve guests). Prices are per vessel, not per person. Park fees are separate.

The case for a private charter is arithmetic before it is romance. An open-trip cabin costs USD 490 to USD 680 per person for three days. Eight people in four cabins is roughly USD 4,000 to USD 5,000 — close enough to the USD 7,100 whole-boat rate that the extra buys you four spare cabins, your own departure date and a boat with nobody else on it. Past ten guests the private charter is simply cheaper.

What a whole-boat booking changes in practice

Your date, not the calendar’s

Open trips run on published three-day windows. A charter runs when you want it to, which matters if your group is assembling from several countries or working around a wedding, a birthday or a corporate offsite.

Your pace

Nobody is waiting for you at the tender. If the snorkelling at Taka Makassar is good you stay; if the group wants a slow morning, the boat has one. Ranger-led activities and park zoning stay fixed — everything else is negotiable, agreed before departure.

No strangers

On a boat with a shared dining room, a lounge, a karaoke room and one sun deck, who else is aboard is not a small detail. A charter removes the variable entirely.

Who charters the boat

Multi-family groups travelling with children, where the four-berth Grandis cabins solve a problem no hotel solves cheaply. Corporate groups of ten to eighteen who want two days off-grid with a dining room, a lounge and no venue hire. Milestone birthdays and anniversaries. And photographers and film crews, who value being able to sit at one anchorage until the light is right — the standard inclusions already cover drone, GoPro and mirrorless documentation with raw footage handed over.

Booking sequence

  1. Send dates, guest count and duration to the booking desk.
  2. Receive a written quotation including the current national park fee schedule for your dates.
  3. Confirm cabin allocation, dietary requirements and any drone permit request — the permit needs at least seven days.
  4. Pay the deposit on the terms set out in your quotation to hold the date.
  5. Send passport details for park paperwork and confirm your Labuan Bajo hotel or flight for the transfer.

Included and excluded

What the price covers

  • Accommodation on board for the whole trip
  • All meals during the trip
  • Mineral water, coffee and tea
  • Premium photo and video documentation with drone, GoPro and mirrorless cameras (raw footage)
  • Guide
  • Snorkelling gear
  • Life vest
  • Pick-up and drop-off between your Labuan Bajo hotel or the airport and the meeting point, within the mainland area near the harbour

What it does not cover

  • Flight tickets
  • Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks beyond water, coffee and tea
  • Personal snacks
  • Crew gratuities
  • Komodo National Park fees, subject to the regulation in force when you travel
  • Komodo National Park drone permit, estimated at IDR 2,100,000, not mandatory, and requested at least seven days ahead

Komodo National Park charges are billed on top of the charter fee. The tariff has been unstable — sources through 2025 and 2026 quote anywhere from roughly IDR 150,000 to IDR 350,000 per person per day, higher at weekends and on holidays — so the booking desk issues a written fee schedule per departure rather than a fixed published number.

If your group is under eight, compare the per-cabin open trip instead. Travelling with children? See family charter set-ups. Catnazse also sails alongside sister phinisi on the same routes when a date is already taken.

Frequently asked questions

How many guests can Catnazse take on a private charter?
Eighteen. The vessel has eight cabins across the main deck and is priced in two bands, one to twelve guests and thirteen to eighteen. Where you see a higher capacity figure quoted elsewhere, use eighteen as the charter maximum.
What is the cheapest way to charter the whole boat?
A one-day cruise without an overnight, at USD 5,200 in 2026 for up to twelve guests. The cheapest overnight option is 2D1N at USD 5,900. Below about eight guests, an open-trip cabin booking is usually the cheaper route.
Is the price per person or per boat?
Per boat. A group of five and a group of twelve pay the same USD 7,100 for a 2026 3D2N charter. That is the arithmetic that makes chartering worthwhile once a group passes roughly eight people.
Can we choose our own departure date?
Yes — that is the main practical difference from the open trip. Private charters are not tied to the published three-day windows, subject to the vessel being free and to weather.
What does the operator need from us to confirm?
Dates, guest count, preferred duration, cabin allocation, any dietary requirements, and passport details for the park permit paperwork. Deposit terms and the payment schedule are confirmed in writing by the booking desk when you request a quotation.
Is there scuba diving on board?
No. Catnazse is a snorkelling vessel — the equipment list covers snorkelling gear and life vests, with no compressor or tanks aboard. Diving can be arranged separately through a licensed Labuan Bajo dive centre if you ask in advance.
Can we bring our own alcohol?
Drinks other than water, coffee and tea are not included, so most charter groups arrange their own. Confirm the corkage and storage arrangement with the booking desk when you book rather than assuming it on the day.
What happens if the weather turns?
The captain re-routes to sheltered anchorages. Park zoning and safety come before the itinerary, and on a private charter the flexibility to swap a stop is built in. In the windy window from late January to early March the chance of a route change is materially higher.
