Komodo Honeymoon Charter — Private Phinisi with Balcony Suites

Short answer. Santalum 1 and Santalum 2 are the only cabins on Catnazse with a king bed and a private balcony — USD 680 and USD 650 per person on a 3D2N open trip. To have the boat entirely to yourselves, a private charter starts at USD 5,900 for 2D1N in 2026. Park fees are separate.

Two people on an eighteen-guest boat is a specific proposition, and it is worth being clear about what makes it work. It is not a floating hotel suite. It is a 34.4-metre wooden phinisi with a crew, a galley and a fixed set of anchorages, on which two cabins happen to have their own piece of rail. The moments that make it are unscheduled ones, and they are easier to reach from a balcony.

Two ways to do it

A Santalum suite on an open-trip departure

From USD 650 per person for three days. You share the dining room and the sun deck with the other cabins but keep your own balcony, bathroom and king bed. This is the option most couples take, and the arithmetic is straightforward: roughly USD 1,300 for two people against USD 7,100 for the whole boat on the same route.

The whole boat, privately

From USD 5,900 for 2D1N or USD 7,100 for 3D2N in 2026. There is no per-person discount for a small group — the number is for the vessel — so this is a decision about privacy rather than value. What it buys is a date of your choosing, an empty sun deck, and a pace nobody else is setting. See private charter rates for the full ladder.

Where the quiet moments actually are

Kalong at dusk. The boat anchors off the mangroves and around sunset thousands of flying foxes lift off in a stream that lasts twenty minutes or more. Dinner is served afterwards. It is the single most reliably memorable evening on the itinerary and it costs nothing extra.

The sun deck at anchor. After dinner, once the day’s snorkelling is done, this is the quietest part of the boat. On a private charter it is yours by default.

Padar before the crowd. The trek starts at 06:00 for a practical reason: heat and light. It also means you are on the ridge before the day boats arrive from Labuan Bajo.

Taka Makassar mid-afternoon. A curved sandbar in open water, reached by tender. There is nothing on it, which is the point.

What we will not promise

We are not going to list a spa, a private chef menu or a decorated cabin on this page, because the operator has not published those and we do not invent inclusions. What is published and certain: all meals cooked on board, mineral water, coffee and tea, snorkelling gear, life vests, a guide, transfers within the Labuan Bajo mainland area near the harbour, and drone, GoPro and mirrorless documentation with the raw files handed over — which for a honeymoon is worth more than most add-ons. Anything beyond that, ask the booking desk and get the answer in writing before you pay.

Best months for calm nights

June, July and September are the most settled, with May and early October close behind. A balcony is only worth the premium on a night you can sit out on it. December to February brings plankton blooms that lift manta activity at Karang Makassar while cutting visibility, and late January to early March is the windiest window of the year — the one to avoid if a smooth night at anchor matters to you. Dates are on the sailing calendar, and the three-day route is set out hour by hour.

National park fees are separate. Reported tariffs through 2025 and 2026 span roughly IDR 150,000 to IDR 350,000 per person per day, weekends and holidays higher, and the structure has been revised more than once, so the booking desk issues a written breakdown for your specific dates rather than publishing a fixed figure.

If both Santalum suites are already taken on your date, check fleet-wide availability for comparable cabins on other vessels working the same route.

Frequently asked questions

Which cabin should a couple book?
Santalum 1 or Santalum 2. They are the only two cabins on Catnazse with a king bed and a private balcony, at USD 680 and USD 650 per person respectively on a 3D2N open trip.
Is it worth taking the whole boat for two people?
It depends what you are buying. Two suites on an open trip is roughly USD 1,300 to USD 1,360 for three days; the whole boat for 2D1N is USD 5,900 in 2026. The premium buys total privacy and your own date. Many couples take a suite on an open trip and spend the difference on a longer stay.
What is the difference between Santalum 1 and Santalum 2?
Specification is the same: king bed, sea view, private balcony, en-suite, air conditioning. The difference is position on the main deck and price — USD 680 against USD 650 per person on a 3D2N open trip.
Can you arrange decorations, a cake or a private dinner?
Ask the booking desk directly. We do not publish a romance package on this page because we will not advertise something the operator has not confirmed in writing for your date. Requests are handled case by case, and provisioning happens in Labuan Bajo before departure, so give notice.
Which months are best for calm nights at anchor?
June, July and September, with May and early October close behind. A settled sea makes the difference between a balcony you use and one you look at. Late January to early March is the windiest window of the year.
Is the boat quiet at night?
At anchor, largely — the generator runs to keep the air conditioning going, which is the trade every liveaboard makes. The sun deck is the quietest space on board after dinner, and on a private charter it is simply yours.
